Kohlian Industries Consolidated

Kohlian Industries Consolidated (KIC) is the dominant Ceresian industrial federation, organized around a duopoly between Kohlian Enterprises Inc. and the Imperial Fund. Unlike older industrial federations, KIC operates less as a voluntary cartel than as a state-aligned technical platform for long-horizon industrial expansion.

Corporate Structure

Kohlian Enterprises Inc. is publicly traded on the Unified Ceresian Stock Exchange, while direct equity in KIC is selectively regulated in coordination with the Imperial Fund. KEI holds a large bloc of KIC equity through differentiated share classes, the Imperial Fund controls another strategic bloc, and federation members retain binding Class A shares under non-sale membership contracts.

Early Development

The institutional ancestry of KIC begins with Frederick Kohl, a Frenemican scientist brought to Ceresia under the Gischen initiative to attract foreign technical talent. Kohl developed the Frederick Distillation Process for kerosene extraction and received control of the western Khan Oilfields through partnership with the state-run Ceresian Petroleum Corporation.

Laura Kohl converted the petroleum inheritance into a diversified industrial network after antitrust action broke the extraction monopoly. Her successor, Barron Kohl, deepened the state partnership and used the Technocratic Clause of the Ceresian Constitution to justify exceptional investment in aviation, weapons, plastics, and advanced manufacturing.

From Federation to Consolidation

The Kohlian Industrial Federation centralized cutting-edge firms while leaving routine consumer production to non-aligned corporations. As space industry became more complex, the federation was consolidated into KIC and placed under a clearer KEI-Imperial Fund governance model. This made KIC the principal vehicle of Ceresian technocratic policy.

Asteroid Crisis and Recovery

KIC nearly collapsed after two extraction machines failed during the Asteroid K1 supply-chain project. The bailout ended family control, eliminated bad debt, and financed a third extraction unit named Hope. Hope landed on Element Z and exotic mineral reserves, producing immediate profitability for the price-controlled Ceresian economy and triggering foreign embargoes against Ceresian raw resources.

Wormhole Era

The discovery of reliable wormhole-generation methods through Element Z, the Dansin Process, and the Mohen-Qvn navigational approximation culminated in Project Dreammaker. KIC diverted extraordinary industrial capacity to the Dreammaker vessel, which initiated the colonization and terraforming sequence that eventually made Ceresia a Type II interstellar civilization.
